Sargent Shriver Award Congratulations to Community Action Planning Council of Jefferson County, Inc.'s Richard Beirman on winning the Community Action Partnership's Sargent Shriver Award! The Sargent Shriver award was established to recognize and honor the accomplishments of individuals who, with the assistance of Community Action, achieved self-sufficiency and then strived to help others do the same through advocacy, volunteerism, and public service. Richard was also the recipient of NYSCAA's Personal Achievement Award. {{featured_image_responsive-450}} Celebrating 50 years: OCO Celebrating 50 years: Oswego County Opportunities marked 50 years of service with special presentations at its annual meeting. Guest speakers included Jan Resnick (right), former executive director; Alfred “Sonny” Allen (left), one of OCO’s original board members; Matthew Geitner (second from left), son of OCO’s first executive director E. Peter Geitner; and Diane Cooper-Currier, the agency’s current executive director. A series of special events is planned throughout 2016 to celebrate OCO’s rich history of helping lift people out of poverty, to build aweareness of the agency’s more than 50 programs, and to cast a vision for the next 50 years. {{featured_image_responsive-450}} Professional Development Community Action Partnership for Madison County's NOEP representatives Jodee Osborne and Ron Rovetto attended the Hunger Solution New York Nutrition Outreach & Outreach Education Program (NOEP) Outreach Convention in Albany, NY . Their NOEP Coordinators can help determine if an individual may be eligible for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs (SNAP), complete the application process, and connect to additional local food resources. {{featured_image_responsive-450}}
